Sahai Lao Coffee - Luang Prabang
Hmong village of Long Lan
Max People : 8

Your day begins at 7AM at Sahai Lao Coffee, where the warmth of a freshly brewed cup marks the start of your journey. With coffee in hand and a takeaway breakfast prepared, you meet your guide and the travelers joining you for this meaningful escape into the mountains of northern Laos.

By 7:15AM, you set off by car toward the highlands. As the road climbs and mist lifts from the valleys, your guide introduces you to the world of Lao coffee, its deep cultural roots, its role in the local economy, and the challenges faced by the farmers who cultivate it. You also learn about the diverse hilltribes of Laos, each with its own traditions and history. Along the way, you stop at a lively local market to select fresh ingredients for your upcoming picnic lunch, a first taste of daily rural life.

Around 8:30AM, you arrive in the Hmong village of Long Lan, where a member of your host family greets you with heartfelt hospitality. Together, you wander through the village’s paths, discovering how daily tasks are carried out, seeing the fields and produce that sustain families, and tasting seasonal fruits or vegetables freshly picked. Your host introduces you to the local medicinal plants used in traditional healing, offering a glimpse into a knowledge system passed down through generations.

By 9:30AM, the hiking adventure begins. Your 10km loop leads you gently along a fertile valley where rice fields, vegetable plots, and family farms spread out between the mountains. As you walk, you learn how rice and other crops are planted and harvested, gaining insight into the agricultural rhythms that shape Hmong life. The trail then rises steeply toward the mountain ridge, where sweeping views of the village and surrounding landscapes reward your effort. At this panoramic point, your guide sets up a picnic lunch, simple, flavorful, and enjoyed in the stillness of the mountains.

The afternoon continues along the ridge line, where the scenery shifts from forest to open fields to bamboo groves. It is a moment to breathe, observe, and appreciate the diversity of the land as it unfolds beneath your steps. By around 1:30PM, you return to Long Lan Village and stop at a family-run coffee farm. Here, you learn about the journey of coffee, from cultivation and harvest to the cherished final cup, and capture symbolic photos among the trees.

By 2:30PM, before heading back to Luang Prabang, your host prepares a freshly brewed coffee made from beans grown right in the village. It’s a warm, grounding moment that brings together everything you’ve learned and experienced throughout the day.

Your return to Luang Prabang is peaceful, with the afternoon light softening the mountains around you. Around 4PM, the tour comes to an end as you’re dropped off at your hotel, carrying not just memories, but a deeper connection to the land, culture, and people of northern Laos.
