Max People : 8

Your 2 days adventure begins at 7AM at Sahai Lao Coffee, where the comforting aroma of freshly brewed coffee welcomes you into the day. With a warm cup in hand and your takeaway breakfast prepared, you meet your guide and the other travelers joining you for this meaningful immersion into nature, culture, and tradition.

Day 1 – Hiking, Coffee & Hmong Traditions

By 7:15AM, you leave Luang Prabang and head into the mountains. As the road climbs through misty valleys, your guide shares the story of Lao coffee, its heritage, its importance for rural communities, and the challenges farmers face today. You also receive an introduction to Laos’ hilltribes, each with its own unique identity. On the way, you stop at a local market to choose fresh ingredients for your picnic lunch, experiencing the rhythm of morning life in the countryside.

At around 8:30AM, you arrive in the Hmong village of Long Lan, where a member of your host family welcomes you with genuine warmth. Together, you explore village life, learning about daily routines, discovering the produce grown to support each household, and tasting seasonal fruits or vegetables. You are also introduced to the medicinal plants that play an essential role in traditional healing.

Around 9:30AM, your 10km hike begins. The trail starts gently along a valley dotted with rice fields and family farms. As you walk, your guide explains how local crops are planted and harvested. Soon, the path rises steeply toward the mountain ridge, where a panoramic viewpoint offers breathtaking vistas of the village below. Here, your guide sets up your picnic lunch, simple, fresh, and enjoyed in the tranquillity of the highlands.

After lunch, the trail follows the ridge line back toward the village, offering a variety of landscapes: bamboo forest, open fields, and sweeping mountain scenery. By about 1:30PM, you return to Long Lan Village and stop at a local coffee farm to learn about the journey of coffee from cultivation to cup, and capture symbolic photos among the trees.

At 2:30PM, your host prepares fresh brewed coffee for you to enjoy before you settle into your homestay. Here, you have time to rest, shower, and soak in the peaceful mountain atmosphere.

By late afternoon, you meet the village shaman and, if available, the village chief. Together, they welcome you with a traditional Baci ceremony, a meaningful blessing that symbolizes protection, health, and good fortune. Traditional Hmong music accompanies this intimate cultural moment.

Around 6:00PM, your host family prepares a local dinner. You are welcome to help in the kitchen, an opportunity to learn how traditional Hmong dishes are cooked. After dinner, gather around with the elders for stories and insights into Hmong culture before settling into your simple, cozy bedding for the night. You fall asleep surrounded by quiet mountain air, far from the noise of the city.

Day 2 – Sunrise, Coffee Harvest & A Meaningful Farewell

Early risers can take an optional sunrise walk to a viewpoint just behind the village. Though short, the climb is steep, but the reward is a sweeping panorama of the valley as the sun rises over the mountains.

By 7:00AM, the village comes alive as families head to their fields. You can stroll peacefully through the village, enjoy your morning coffee, or help prepare breakfast. After sharing a homemade meal with your host family, you thank them for their hospitality.

Around 8:30AM, you return to the coffee farm for a hands-on experience of the harvest. You learn how coffee cherries are picked, sorted and hulled, gaining a deep appreciation for the work behind every cup. Working alongside the farmers, you participate in each step, making this an authentic and memorable learning moment.

At 11:30AM, you enjoy a freshly prepared Hmong lunch in the village. Vegetarian options or dietary restrictions can be arranged with advance notice.

At 1PM, before leaving Long Lan Village, your host prepares one final artisanal brew to conclude your village experience. You then begin the return journey to Luang Prabang.

By 2:30PM, you arrive at Sahai Lao Coffee for the final activity of your tour: roasting your own coffee. Guided by experts, you sort your beans, control the roast, and package your personalized 250g souvenir bag, a handcrafted memory of your two days in the mountains.

The experience ends at 4PM, as you leave with a full heart, a deeper understanding of Hmong culture, and the rich aroma of freshly roasted coffee in your hands.
